O Gauge Layout
This is the next stage in the MB "Master Plan". I originally started playing trains with "OO", then gradually moved to "TT" before changing back to modern image "OO" in about 1980. Hopefully running parallel with the "OO" will be "O" gauge. To aid my progress in the larger scale I have joined both the Gauge "O" Guild and also MIGO, (Modern Image Gauge "O"). Both these organisations exist to promote the scale and in particular MIGO champions modern (i.e. diesel and electric) models. Details of new models and progress from manufacturers can be found in the regular MIGO newsletter. The GOG also produces a regular newsletter and "The Gazette". Membership of the GOG also has other benefits, such as discounts with certain manufacturers.
There has been no rush to start this project, but the necessary impetus has come from the GOG "Layout 2002 Challenge".
The rules are simple; the layout must be to 7mm scale, no more than 2002 square inches scenic area (not including ant fiddle/storage yards) and at least one working point. It is to be a joint effort with a long-time friend of mine, John Hughes, and a trackplan based upon my long retired "Bryford Road" has been agreed and construction has commenced with great enthusiasm (for about the next eight weeks or so!).
C&L track components have been purchased and John is busy assembling these. Meanwhile, all four baseboards have been built and the two storage yards are acquiring their traverser and sector plates.
The time period will initially be late 60’s/early 70’s and it represents a station closed to passengers on a truncated branch line that still retains a small goods yard. This should give plenty of operational scope for shunting and transferring of the wagons to the private siding beyond the station.
More will appear as we build it!
